In April of 2020, Mavs Moneyball’s Doyle Rader spoke with Dallas Maverick Chairman Mark Cuban. During their conversation, Cuban was asked about Dirk Nowitzki. He replied that it [Dirk’s Nowitzki’s Statue] was on hold due to the COVID 19 pandemic.

‘You know, this obviously slowed it down,” said Cuban. “The hope was to have a model ready to show the second game of this coming season when we retire his jersey. We’ll have to see how everything plays out.”

Last week, I spoke with Cuban to get an update on the statue.

” We hired the sculpter and I signed all the paperwork, so he is working on it. When I don’t know. You have to let an artist be an artists,” Cuban told One37pm.

Dirk Nowitzki played 21 seasons from 1998-2019, all with the Dallas Mavericks. He finished sixth all-time in points scored in the NBA. He also won a championship in 2011 and was named Finals MVP. Nowitzki is slated to headline the 2024 Hall of Fame along with Tony Parker and Dwyane Wade.
