Jason Kidd is one of the greatest point guards ever to play the game of basketball. He is definitely in my top-five floor generals to ever lace up a pair of sneakers.  On Saturday, September 7th, Kidd along with other members of the Class of 2018 will be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Jason Kidd began his career with the Dallas Mavericks in 1994 and averaged 11.7 PPG, 7.7 APG, and 5.4. Upon the conclusion of his rookie season, he would come a Co-Rookie of the Year with now fellow Hall of Famer Grant Hill.  Throughout his Hall of Fame career Kidd was a 10× NBA All-Star, 9× member of the All-Defensive team. Kidd is also, first all-time in assists, second all-time in steals, and was a member of the 2011 NBA Champions Dallas Mavericks.

Another member of that same Dallas Mavericks team Jason Terry was a guest on the Mavs Fanatic Podcast earlier this summer and shared his thoughts on Kidd beginning inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.

“It is a tremendous accomplishment, and he deserves every bit of it. He is a hall of fame player, but not only is he a hall of fame player he is a hall of fame person. This guy is one of my great friends, and we speak a least two to three times a week and what he has done for me, and my family phenomenal. I can not thank him enough”, said Terry.

“The two former Mavericks conversation is “just about basketball, its all about the game of basketball, especially on the floor. It was incredible playing with a guy that could see things before it happened.  So, for me, I was like a receiver like Michael Irving I would run my route, and he would throw it, and I would be right there to make plays.”

Terry on Jason Kidd the coach:

“The thing about Jason he is a teacher of the game, and he allowed me to be in every coaching meeting the last two years in Milwaukee and the opportunity to see it. We had this thing called night school… He and I would come in to teach Giannis along with other rookies the game of basketball.”

Kidd’s former coach Rick Carlisle shared his thoughts on how important he was during their 2011 finals runs. Also, he spoke about conversations they both had before Kidd decided to pursue a career in coaching.

“Great player one of the all-time greats. When we won it in 2011, he did a little bit of everything from guarding all the great players. At some point during that series on the perimeter, and he scored when he needed to.”  In regards to coaching ” We were on a golf trip right before his first year for three and half days, and we talked on that trip about it some. He is one of those people that will be successful at anything he does.” Coach Carlisle told me back in April.
